Frequently Asked Questions
Equine exercise physiology, performance assessment, and athletic intelligence, designed around the individual horse.
Understanding the Assessment
A vet exam addresses health. Equine exercise physiology looks at how your horse functions under athletic demand (cardiovascular response, fatigue, recovery) and how that shapes performance.
No. Every horse is an individual athlete, and the starting point is always your question, not its current level.
Yes. Every protocol is built around your horse's current condition, and reviewed and approved by your trainer and vet before testing begins.
No. Our methodology began in show jumping and now applies across racing, endurance, eventing, and dressage.
Physiology can investigate what's actually behind that pattern. A label becomes a question to test, not a fixed diagnosis.
The ZERO•ONE Method
We start with your question, not a device, and interpret the relationships between physiological signals rather than single numbers.
Your horse's unique physiological signature, built by reading multiple signals together (capacity, fatigue, recovery, efficiency), not any one measurement alone.
How your horse's systems work together under demand. Best doesn't mean maximum. It means balanced.
No. We measure a horse only against its own history and baseline, never against other horses.
Performance, Potential and Competition
Yes. We examine cardiovascular response, workload, fatigue, and recovery together to find exactly where the limitation appears.
Yes, including current capacities, limiting systems, and realistic development potential.
Yes. We check whether your horse's physiological profile matches the demands of a specific height, distance, or event.
Yes, from an athletic perspective: capacities, limitations, potential. It complements a vet's pre-purchase exam rather than replacing it.
Data, Devices and Testing
Yes. We're device-agnostic, and we work with valid heart rate, lactate, speed, workload, or lab data you already have.
You don't need any before contacting us. We'll tell you what's actually required once we know your question.
Yes. We design the protocol; your trainer, vet, or team runs it in your horse's normal environment, with no specialist expertise required.
No. We inform. You decide. Your trainer stays in full control.
Assessment Paths and Process
Start with your question, then pick what fits:I already have data. Send it for interpretation. My team can run the test. We design the protocol.I want ZERO•ONE to handle it. Full onsite assessment.I'm not sure. Tell us your question, and we recommend the route.
We build a full picture of your horse (condition, history, context), then design the protocol and get trainer and vet approval before testing starts.
About a month, start to finish: roughly a week to prepare the protocol, up to ten days of testing, and about two weeks for analysis. Most horses need two tests, occasionally up to five.
Training, Competition and Return to Work
No. Testing is designed to fit inside your horse's existing programme, not replace it.
Yes, built around whatever your horse is already doing.
Yes, once it can perform structured exercise consistently. The protocol adapts to its current condition.
Nutrition and Performance Support
Yes. Recommendations align with your horse's physiological profile and are usually adjustable within about a week.
Privacy, Data Ownership and Confidentiality
You do. We interpret it within an agreed, confidential scope; ownership always stays yours.
No. We only need the data itself. We may ask for context like climate or training environment, but only to interpret your horse's own response, never to compare it to others.
Results and Ongoing Development
No competition result can be guaranteed. What we do guarantee is that no conclusion is ever built from a single number or a guess.
It becomes a starting point. We offer 6 and 12 month monitoring with periodic re-testing against your horse's own baseline.
Working With ZERO•ONE
Start with your question and select "Team or Federation" or "Performance Brand". The form adjusts to ask about your organization directly.
Yes. Trainers, vets, physiologists, and data specialists can apply through our Partner or Certification track.
